Review:
Let me start by saying that I am a fan of Alfred Hitchcock. This film, in my opinion, is his best work. But I think Hitchcock owes its success to its long time partner of Bernard Hermann, who killed the music for many of his films, including this one. Anthony Perkins Norman Bates filled the shoes well. He does not overplay and do not underestimate him. Janet Leigh was not the best person to reflect Marion, but she played quite adequetly. However, Vera Miles liked best in this film. Hitchcock was considered for the role after she had to leave work in his latest film Vertigo. It was probably a key role here, since she was the one who discovered the terrible secret Normans. Tony Award-winning actor Martin Basalm was terrible in his brief appearance as a private detective trying to track down Marion. John Gavin was OK, but nothing to brag about. Hitchcock made a wise decision in black and white film, and made history when he asked that no one was allowed into the theater after the film began, so as not to cause confusion. This is the most brilliant film I've ever seen, and I give it 5 stars (out of 5).
